Competition, and dancers train anywhere from 2 to 8 hours weekly. In addition to learning choreography for competition and performance, members also study ballet and focus on developing proper technique that will prepare them for a lifetime of dancing.
The Competition Company was formed when The Beat opened in 2008. During the first season, dancers received many top honors at competition including some of the following highlights:
Mariah, Paige, Elizabeth, Haley, and Madeline all placed overall in their age divisions for solos at the NTG Competition. Morganne was awarded a workshop scholarship through NTG.
Kassidy received first overall and was named Junior Miss Dynamite at the Dynamite National Talent Competition in Columbus.
Savannah placed 4th overall in a very tough solo competition at VIP in Grand Rapids, MI.
The Senior Tap Company received an entertainment award and tap division aware for "New Shoes" at VIP in Grand Rapids, MI.
Delaney, Nicole, and Haley place in overalls at every competition with their show-stopping "Just Got Paid" tap trio.
The Beat placed in numerous overalls; members of the Junior Jazz Company, Teen Tap Company, and Senior Tap Company all performed by invitation in the Star Showcase; and director Colleen Murphy was named "Teacher of the Year" at the Kids Artistic Revue National Competition in the summer of 2009.
Auditions for the 2010-11 Competition Company will be held Saturday May 29, 2010 at the studio. We welcome all motivated dancers to audition to be a part of our team!
